Conquistador  XII - Black PRE Stallion

From the Best of Spain…. Our handsome black stallion with riveting presence represents a rare culmination. Dante offers the combination of Indiano and Cardenas lineages in rare black, there is no other stallion like him, found no where else in the world. His classical baroque physique & athleticism is a product of the finest bloodlines in Spain.

Conquistador’s (aka Dante) sire, the incomparable Indiano XVIII, is almost 100% Cartujano or Bocado, considered by most to be the purest lines of the PRE (see articles section for history on the Cartujano breeding of the monks).

Junco Mástil, Vándalo, Clásico de Cárden

Conquistador is a Best Movement, Conformation and Performance Champion. He has successfully competed at a number of specialty breed shows and open dressage competitions.

Conquistador’s quality is reflected in his impeccable bloodlines. From a lineage of exceptional conformation,
movement, & temperament… Conquistador is the result of centuries of dedication and is very unique — no where
else will you find a breeding stallion of this quality who carries both Cardenas & Indiano bloodlines in rare black!

Grandsire - GENIL  Champion of Spain, Mexico

Imported from Spain bred by Miguel Angel Cardenas

Conquistador (Dante)’s dam Jordana was bred at Hacienda Santa Lucia, the ranch of Frederico Jimenez Sainz. Jordana is the daughter of the incomparable Genil (Champion of both Spain & Mexico, imported from Spain.

Genil was bred by the famous stud farm of Miguel Angel Cardenas, top winning breeder of Spain for several decades. Jordana is known for her beautiful elevated, floating movement and stands at almost 16.2H. She was bred to Indiano before being sold with her in-utero foal, Conquistador, to Canada where he was birthed at the farm of

Paul & June Clelland, of Alberta Canada.

Conquistador carries bullfighting lines from his dam’s ancestry. He has sired colts who carry this strong influence, possessing the maneuverability of a mount suited to face the bull ring.

Conquistador’s sire, Indiano XVIII (1985) was bred by Don Joaquin Conesa of Nobleza del Guadiana. (Spain). Snr. Conesa was awarded “Breeder of the Year” by ANCCE at their national breed show, SICAB 2004 (Spain’s largest annual PRE exhibition with a quarter million spectators!).

Dante’s sire and dam are both gray, the dominant color in the breed. They each carry a hidden (recessive ) BLACK gene. Dante was the first ever BLACK offspring sired by Indiano. Dante was not bred specifically for color, but for quality! He is primarily from the line called Cartujano or Bocado, a distinguished group of horses said to have been kept pure of outsize influences by the Monks who kept careful breeding records for many centuries.

Indiano’s sire & dam were bred by Romero Benitez, a multi-generational breeder of champions tracing his stock back to the Carthusian or Bocado horses from the turn of the century. Some believe this line is the purest line of Spanish Horses, given their extraordinary round, baroque outline, elevated movement and almost profound capacity for versatility.

Before being exported from Spain, Indiano was undefeated in conformation and movement. He was honored on 6 occasions with championships, including Gold Medal, & champion of the breed awards. Twice he was Supreme Champion of Functionality. After his importation to Mexico, Indiano was awarded Grand National Champion of Champions in Mexico. Indiano has sons & daughters in Spain & Mexico winning at top levels.

Just imagine the possibilities with your mare!

Breeding your mare to Conquistador (aka Dante) is easy! We are committed to deliver excellence and reliability with every breeding. We’ll take the guess work out of the process for you and provide old-fashioned service with a smile. We have had many happy maiden mare owners who have returned for repeat breedings to this wonderful stallion.

Conquistador is DNA color tested homozygous for the black gene. He carries two black genes, and always gives his offspring a black gene. Depending on the color of the mare, he has produced a variety of colors, including blacks, bays, black-bay, buckskin, grulla, paints, and greys. He cannot produce a chestnut, as his black gene is dominant over the red factor.

Conquistador sires outstanding pure and partbred foals. His babies are born strong and curious, not fearful! They have amazing balance at a couple of hours old, and are very friendly, bold, and correct with lovely self carriage and movement. In addition to their intelligence, beauty and athleticism, his foals are naturally well mannered and very people  oriented. Perhaps that is why almost every mare owner has bred a Dante foal to keep for life, with very few exceptions!

Dante has no difficulty in settling a mare, provided she is in healthy breeding condition. Even difficult mares in their twenties, and older maiden mares in their late teens, have conceived and delivered healthy foals. A live foal guarantee is offered.

Dante is professionally collected Monday-Friday in the late afternoon at a renown equine veterinarian facility. The container is shipped via Fed Express to insure your shipment is on its way to you. Delivery is typically received by 10:00am the next morning, so your shipment arrives fresh, less than 24 hrs old. We randomly check samples at our vet facility and in every test, his cooled semen has remained viable for up to 5 days.

Foal Registration
Dante’s purebred foals are eligible for registration with Spain, (ANCCE), and all three Andalusian registries in the USA.   We will be happy to help you sort out the registry paperwork process. All foals from non-Andalusian mares are eligible for registration with the IALHA as Half  Andalusians, regardless of dam’s paperwork status. He has produced gorgeous crosses from TB, AQHA, Arabian, Appendix, Friesian, Morgan, Paso Fino, Percheron, Paint, Missouri Foxtrotter, Spanish Barb and Mustang mares. Visit our online photo gallery of Dante babies here on this site.

A number of our home-bred and raised colts at Mythos have been acquired by FIRST TIME stallion owners who have been pleased with the temperaments that he passes on to his colts. To see Dante’s foals click on the slide show.

Reserve Your Foal for 2024
If you do not have a mare and would like to reserve either a purebred or a half Andalusian foal, call or email me and lets  make this dream a reality. Reserving a foal from one of our purebred mares (in-utero purchase) is easier than you think. We will keep the mare on site, handle the breeding and raise the foal until weaning. We have several stellar mares open each year.  Reserve the mare of your choosing to breed to Dante for your next pure Spanish foal.

Thank you for your interest in this beloved, special stallion!

Dante is passing on his
